So, you’ve heard of CBD oil, and now wondering ‘what is CBG oil’? CBG is a cannabinoid like CBD and possesses similar characteristics and benefits to CBD. It is the parent molecule and precursor to CBD and comes from the hemp plant as well. Visit our Hempology CBD Store to find out more.
Why CBD and CBG are not the same thing
At first glance, you probably thought CBG was a spelling mistake of CBD. Actually, there is a whole different compound called CBG, which stands for cannabigerol. Both cannabidiol (CBD) and cannabigerol (CBG) belong to the same family of chemicals- cannabinoids. The important distinction between CBG and CBD, however, is that CBG is the precursor to other cannabinoids like CBD.
Similar to CBD, CBG is not psychoactive, so it doesn’t produce the adverse effects of marijuana smoking. CBG is also present in much smaller quantities in the cannabis plant than CBD. You will often find around 20% CBD in hemp, while only 1% is CBG. This means you have to put 20 times the resources to harvest CBG compared to CBD. This is why it’s more expensive than CBG.
What is CBG oil?
Because it is so expensive, you will often find CBD oils that incorporate CBG oil, as well. People usually apply CBD oils for a plethora of reasons! (Please do some research)
CBG products you can find
CBG is available in all kinds of forms, mostly topical products such as oils, creams, and tinctures.
There are even CBG toothpaste and CBG skin creams, thanks to its antibacterial and antifungal properties. CBG-only products are relatively more expensive compared to CBD-only products because of the difficulty in extracting CBD from the hemp plant.
